“Flipkart and Pratilipi’s collaboration is a direct competition with the well established Amazon Kindle from a business perspective but as a writer, I see the broader picture at a personal level.” – Abhishek Kapoor, Indian Author and Entrepreneur

In order to build the largest library of fiction and nonfiction ebooks in 12 Indian languages across a variety of genres like romance, horror, self-help, motivation, etc., Flipkart, one of India’s leading digital commerce entities, and Pratilipi, one of India’s largest digital storytelling platforms, have announced their collaboration.

There are about 25 million monthly active users on Pratilipi. 500 million articles are read each month on Pratilipi, which has published over 9.5 million stories to date. Currently, daily active users spend 90 minutes daily, while premium subscribers spend almost 3 hours daily.

Speaking on this collaboration, Ranjeet Pratap Singh, Co-Founder & CEO, Pratilipi, said,“The driving idea behind Pratilipi is essentially access. At Pratilipi, we believe that everyone should have access to reading irrespective of any barriers such as language, geography, format, money and technical literacy. Joining hands with Flipkart, one of India’s leading digital commerce entities, we believe that together we can build one of the biggest content libraries in regional languages and make it easily accessible to audiences that like to consume content in regional languages.”

“Reading is an essential part of everyone’s learning journey. While more and more people adopt technology as the way of learning and storytelling, it is our endeavour to cater to their evolving needs. To offer customers an extensive range of books across genres, Flipkart has collaborated with Pratilipi, one of India’s biggest storytelling platforms. With this development, we will reach our customer base of 450 million people and fuel their passion to read across 12+ Indian languages”, said Kanchan Mishra, business head, FMCG, home and general merchandise, Flipkart.

Indian Author of international bestsellers and an award-winning serial entrepreneur, Abhishek Kapoor, said, “Digital Golgappa is closely connected to the Indian and international writing community and we welcome this collaboration between Flipkart and Pratlipi. Of course, this is a direct competition with the well established Amazon Kindle from a business perspective but as a writer, I see the broader picture at a personal level. Every writer or poet dreams to reach new readers, and this is a continuous process. With the high number of users both on Flipkart and Pratilipi, not only will the writers benefit but the readers will also get a wide range of options to select their favourite books to read. Though as an entrepreneur, I don’t see any significant impact on the Kindle share in the Indian ebooks market at this point of time, the future is certainly bright.”

With this partnership, Pratilipi hopes to reach a wider audience of people who are interested in regional content and grow its user base in rural areas of India.
